Many go down life's path with lofty plans
To amass a great fortune of houses and lands
And to live a life of pleasure and ease,
Thinking happiness can be found in these.

Others pursue power and worldwide fame
To be known by all and win their acclaim.
But those without God who attain these goals
Soon find emptiness remains in their souls.

They couldn’t find the happiness they sought
For it comes from Him and can‘t be bought.
If only they realized these things won't last
Since life is fleeting and will soon be past.

Wealth, worldly pleasure, fame, and power
Will all be gone at death's dark hour.
And beyond the grave when eternity begins
Those unsaved will be judged for their sins.

If only they would believe in God's Son
And repent of the sinful deeds they've done,
Then they could go down life's path
Not needing to worry about God's wrath.

They would have the joy they longed for,
Inner peace, contentment, and much more
For when their lives on earth shall end
Heavenly bliss would at once begin!

Only steps which are Spirit born
will in the last day chime.
They burst forth from hearts that mourn
to glorify our God, sublime.

Steps not bathed in Jesus’ blood
will only lead to fruits of flood.
Only Christ can reach within
And change those steps once wrote by sin.

I became a Christian as a teenager attending a Crusade by Billy Graham at Haringey Arena, London, UK.  Over the years I have written a lot of poetry, initially secular but as I matured in my faith I was able to express it in poetry at last.  The poem below is based on Ps.139 and expresses my wonder that God is indeed interested in every detail of my life.
I have a book with Amazon called Shafts of Son Light

Lord, you have searched me and you know me.  Ps. 139

When I was just a cluster
Of cells too small to see,
Did you create uniqueness
And make a plan for me?

And do you watch my struggles
Observe each rise and fall,
Is it your hand that holds me
And brings me through it all?

Have I a single secret
A deed, a word, a thought,
That can be undetected,
Unknown, unseen, unsought?

Such knowledge overwhelms me,
There’s nothing I can say
But ‘Search me, know me, test me,
And lead me in your way.’

~ Marion Caragounis ~

Have you ever wondered
how prayers go where they belong,
As they rise up to Heaven like the notes of a song
Do they sail like ships
on the ocean that is space?
Or, do they fall like snowflakes
into Heaven’s  embrace?
Are there Angels who collect them?
Are there mail tubes we can’t see?
How does God know
which prayer is from me?
How does He remember,
how does He sort them all?
Some prayers are complicated
and some of them are small.
Some prayers are emergent
and need answers right away,
Life and death importance
that can’t wait another day
They come from distant countries ,
whispered needs from the mouth
Of peoples from the East, the West, the North and South
People of all ages, every color ever creed
People telling God of their hopes, their fears and needs.
People who know He will rally to their plea
People who believe in what they cannot see
Some who have experienced His mercy and His grace
Some who will soon look upon His face
Some who doubt but hope that what they’re taught is real
Some who are bargaining and want to make a deal
Some prayers are silent, some prayers are spoken words
These prayers are sent with fervent hope that they will be heard
Although I cannot say just how they reach God’s ears
In my heart I know they do, so I have no fear

The style of this poem is a bit different in that it's a poem/song lyrics poem.

Lord, You have drawn a line in the sand,
a line between evil and good,
a line I am not allowed to cross.
Yet I don’t always do as I should.

Lord, You stand on my side of the line.
Your heart overflows with concern and care.
But on the other side stands the tempter.
His trap is baited, waiting to ensnare.

It seems Satan is beckoning to me.
His lure is beginning to entice.
Please, Lord, come and rescue me,
so I don’t fall prey to his clever device.

Lord, I’m trying so hard to be good.
But You know I don’t always do as I should.
Please help me to take two steps back.
Please lend me your strength, Lord…
so I can stand against Satan’s attack.

I’m still on Your side, Lord.
But my toes are touching the line.
I feel I’m teetering on the brink,
torn between evil and the divine.

Instead of one step forward,
help me to take two steps back.
Lend me Your competent strength
so I can stand against Satan’s attack.

I know there will be times
when You will have to stay my foot again.
But two steps back are not enough.
I would really rather take ten.

Lord, I’m trying so hard to be good.
But You know I don’t always do as I should.
Please help me to take ten steps back.
Please lend me your strength, Lord…
so I can stand against Satan’s attack.

The telescope of heaven
Looks down on earth each day
Seeking for a man who will
Turn to God and pray
Will you be that one
Who will turn his heart aright
Seek the Lord while He may be found
Leave darkness enter light

His way is the highest
His thoughts above our own
We shall leave this earth below
And enter heaven's throne
Upon our time while waiting
The lost world needs Him too
We are to be the fishers of men
It's what He's called us too

His cross has left its imprint
On hearts who know the Lord
Never are we the same again
Who've trusted in His Word
The dynamic now of living
For we've been born again
His love keeps on giving
Seeking still lost men

Time is still a marching
Then comes eternity
We can make the difference
To set a captive free
No longer do we live our lives
As they are but our own
We have come unto the cross
And knelt before His throne

He is still the King of Kings
In earth and heaven above
Our purchased, prized possesion
Who shed His precious blood
Cast thy burden on the Lord
For He can set you free
The telescope of heaven
Is waiting now for thee

I am a 17year old girl from New Zealand and over the last year I have been writing quite a few Christian songs. Here are some of them.

I was awakened from sleep one night.
by somebody knocking at the door.
Sleepily I turned on my light.
And put my feet on the floor.
Carefully I climbed down each stair
Rounded a corner - I was almost there.
But just before I opened the door.
The person gave up and knocked no more.

A man was praying to the Lord
For something he wanted so dear
But after a while he thought to himself.
'Maybe God doesn't care.'
Broken hearted he got off his knees.
Thinking 'God won't ever answer my pleas'
And just be fore God would have opened the door.
That man gave up and 'knocked' no more.

Don't stop knocking! Don't you quit!!
God WILL answer- when He sees fit.
And though you're discouraged just kneel down and pray.
God might answer today.

In the Bible we are told to cast on God our care.
If we pray in Jesus' name -God will answer our prayer.
Some times the answer he gives is --wait.
And sometimes it is --no.
But don't quit praying...don't give up!
Until the answer you know.

Some folks in life are fast.
Some are slow.
Some take a long time to start
And some just ..go!
Some people are famous.
-they're known as stars
But hey! Jesus made and loves you just as you are.

So whether your eyes are brown or blue..
Jesus loves you!
Whether your hair is brown or grey.
That's the way you'll stay.
Because Jesus made you and loves you.
And nothing can mar.
That you're special to him.
Just as you are!

Some folks in life are social.
And some are shy.
Some are very strong.
And some always cry.
But do not be discouraged by what others can do.
Just give your heart to Jesus and he will use you.

Living a life that's filled with woe.
Holding onto sin... you won't let go.
The Saviour pleads but you say "No!"
What will it take?
Jesus Christ for you has died.
On the cross was crucified.
But you won't make up your mind.
What will it take?

How many problems will arise.
Before you finally realize
God meant every word he said.
What will it take?
And while you lay there in your bed.
Sinner, When will you awake?
What big mistake do you have to make?
What will it take?

We sit at home with our feet propped up.
Sipping tea from a porcelain cup.
When there are people without hope.
What will it take?
There are people without light
Dying every single night.
When will we finally do what is right?
What will it take?

How many problems will arise.
Before you finally realize
God meant every word he said.
What will it take?
And while you lay there in your bed.
Christian, When will you awake?
What big mistake do you have to make?
What will it take?

Life on earth is very fast.
Opportunity will soon past.
Only what's done for Christ will last.
What will it take?
We must give Jesus Christ our all.
Whether we're big or whether we're small.
Then we must obey his call.
What will it take?

If Jesus Christ in person,
Came to your house today.
What would he find?
Would you hurry to the door and gladly
show him in or would you run away and hide?

O come on Christian! Didn't you know
You cannot hide anything from God.
Even a child is known by what he does.
God knows all about you.

If Jesus Christ in person
Came to your house today.
What would you be doing?
Would you gasp in horror
if he walked into your room?
And hope he hadn't heard what you were saying?

Is Jesus Christ your saviour?
Do you walk the narrow way?
Or are you just like everybody else?
Is your heart pure? Your thoughts? and your life?
What do you let inside your house?

Brothers and sisters.
Did you forget...
one day you'll stand before the King.
Will you be crying? Or will you sing?
How many things will you regret?

O come on Christian! Didn't you know
You cannot hide anything from God.
Even a child is known by what he does.
God knows all about you.

I have been writing to a prison inmate and over the holidays he was struggling and so I sent him the following poem for encouragement. I pray that it will give strength and peace to those who may be in the wilderness.

Why does God test us when He already knows what's in store,
to the point we cannot handle it... and then He test more.

How can God love me knowing what I have done,
breaking commandments five, eight and nine just to name a few.
How can God forgive these sins as if there were none,
as the things I know not to, are the things that I do.

How can we honor this grace that God has given,
only worthy of punishment… and rewarded with heaven.

I discover all these answers when I study God's word,
that the saving blood of Jesus is the source of our renewing.
I now go to war against error and what I have heard,
not putting faith in self as God knows what He's doing.

God Loves You and So Do I

Please the will of our creators plan,
I was a bleak and broken spoke of a man.
I pleased he not for I did not see,
blinded by the mire and smoke just to be.
I took my love to be faithful and true,
the seed was planted, opalescent cream of new.
The fresh crop became the seasons of life,
while the world got gruelling and bitter with strife.
So the weakness to fall for the selfishness of the world,
becomes the focus of this confusing swirl.
The seed was planted against my will,
the root became an unwanted weed to kill.
Now the sorrow and heartbreak had filled my cup,
the choice I had made God did not drink up.
So the pain and agony went on for some seasons,
till God raised me up for all righteous reasons.
Our fruit is ripe and I thank God for the light,
the binding vine the fruit of God’s might.
The forgiveness is given to be regaled with joy,
God opened my eyes towards the gift of a boy.
He suffered the agony so that we may live,
Our faith trust and believing so we must give.
I thank you Lord to set me straight,
from the ignorance and tolerance and all of the hate.

An Open Letter from God:

My Dear Children,

As I take a pen in my hand,
It seems to Me you've failed to understand,

From ages past,
right up to the end,
All along it has been,
My concept, my Plan,
To accomplish my Will,..
I must dwell within Man.

The Spirit of Jesus came,
To Live Inside,..
Not just next to,
or Beside,
but deep in us,
He Lives Within.

Some ask, "Give me Your Power"
but, the Power is Mine,
and resides within!
Not from out of You,
but from out of Him!

Oh, My Child, Do you not see?
Before He came, and His Blood to Spill,..
Before He died upon the Tree,..
In the Garden,.. He surrendered His Will?

Some say "I will follow Him"
but continue to live their own way,
Don't you see, HE must live within?
Truly follow Him, that is what I pray.

Others say, "What have I yet to do?"
Oh, my Children, is it not clear?
Your Death to self, is what you must do.
Yield to Him, for He loves you so Dear!

"What is surrender? How must I die?"
Do what Jesus did, Give your will to Him!
It's not about you,.. it is all about I,..
He must be allowed to have His way Within!

He who saves his own life will lose it.
Give it to Jesus, and you will save it.

Wild flowers of the valley
That God created with love
Every flower has its own beauty
That God made with his touch

People are like the flowers
With Gods touch they will bloom
Without his blessing showers
Their beauty will be ruin

Gods loving touch is everywhere
Just look and you shall see
His gentle hands and their sweetness
Made everything perfect and neat

He sent his son down to this earth
For our mortal sinful ways
Let's be very thankful
What he did for us that day

Let's keep him in our spirit
Follow him with your whole heart
For he is the key to Heaven
Capture this in thy hearts

God's touch is to mankind
As the rain is to the flowers
Without it they have no hope
They would wilt and cannot survive

Blessing will be upon upon us
When we will follow his ways
Eternal life we will receive
Peace and his wondrous grace

Sitting here I know I have greater purpose
I await my turn to reach the surface.

As the sun breaks thru from a towering tree
It pulls me up and sets me free.

A whirl of wind sends me high
Now I’m a cloud, coming by.

I drift slow with wondering aim
I become a shower you call rain.

I come too you fast and of many
From one drop we gather as plenty.

Now is the time we start to grow
Gathered in abundance we start to flow.

Just one drop that has never seen
I couldn’t believe it!!!! I’ve become a stream.

Gravity guides me and seems to know
Sometimes fast, sometimes slow.

Wondering if my journey would end
We come to a stop, around a bend.

We cover the depths, and fill the rim
A pond again.

I have traveled far and it seems with some purpose
I wait again to reach the surface.

As the sun breaks thru a familiar tree
Once again it sets me free.

Looking down from above
Now I burst
I burst with love.

I descend unto you from the sky
My aim is you
And now I know why.

As quickly as I can I will gather and flow
Knowing now
The love I know.

I know have purpose for all I do
You are my pond
My purpose is you.

Walking this path I feel all alone
I hear birds in a distance of heavenly tones
To my confusion I come to a stop
I rest my body upon a rock

Out in the distance I see a tree
Splitting two paths, which one is me

Looking afar but far I can not see
What lay ahead both sides of this tree

I round the world with all I know
I push from the rock to find a lamps glow
With each step the light gets brighter
Two paths the same, now one is wider
Free in mind and my spirit the same
I will follow your path in Jesus’ name

Entangled in brush, weeds and trees I come to a shoreline and fall to my knees

In my time of desperation out comes a plea this water turned to glass
A reflection of me

Weak and weary I find no strength to stand falling forward clinching sand

Feeling torn, battered and bruised I look again
the reflection is you

One in the middle two on the sides I hear your voice you hear my whys?

Helpless my son I know you feel now I teach u to make water still

A path of choice has lead to me the heavens rejoice as you fell to your knees

The sand you clinch will never stay it’s the things of the world that keep you astray.

Open your eyes look in your hand throw this rock when I command

Back goes my arm I hesitate to throw Jesus shouts” let it go!

Casting forward far and high throw a rock, Jesus why?

Consumed by grace and sailing slow the answer to your question you’ll soon know

I watch this rock come to a stop, sudden turn it begins to drop

Descending fast and picking up pace I look back down to see your face

Into the water and echoes the splash it dances thru the trees and has come to pass

Ripples are abundant and shatters the glass the rock is the world that you have cast
The ripples rolling in are it’s sin and you standing there represent men

For now you can no longer see my reflection
I heard your whys and answered your question.

I pray for you my daughter
I pray for you my son
To taste the Living Water
To know the Fathers Son

To know joy and feel His peace
His healing hands in yours
Willingly upon your knees
Like rain, the Spirit pours

My faith is a mustard seed
And so the mountain moves
Our God knows just what you need
His death is living proof

Your Mother loves you dearly
Your Father loved you first
He sees your needs more clearly
He's seen you at your worst

And yet you are forgiven
Your sins are all washed clean
The Son died; and has risen
So you might be pristine

I pray for you my daughter
I pray for you my son
To taste the Living Water
To know the Fathers Son

Father thank you for being a loving caring God.
Thank you for all the blessings including our daily bread.
Thank you for Jesus and the precious blood that he once shed.

Thank you for giving me these eyes that I may see.
The beauties of this wonderful earth.
Trees, Birds, the Flowers and all that you created for me.

Thank you for the people that come into our lives.
The children that we love so much.
Our neighbors and our wives.

Thank you for the Christians that stand up for Jesus each day.
No matter what this world may think.
These believers never sway.

Thank you for all the guidance that comes from up above.
Your always there to lead me.
I am truly grateful for your love.

Thank you for this heart you have given me to feel.
The love and beauty that's all around me.
A love for my Savior that nothing else can steel.

Thank you for listening to my prayers I send along your way.
Sometimes I stumble through them.
Thank you for listening to them today.

I admire you so as I read about you in God's Holy book,
and the hardships you faced & every ounce of strength it took.
For you are among God's chosen people & I love you so.
This love I have for you I can and will not let go!

Your ancestors prophesied the intimate details of His birth.
This Christ child who died for your sins and mine came to earth.
They were the tree, we are grafted branches, because, they didn't recognize Him.
Now don't let the mistakes of your ancestors keep you from knowing Him.

For you see, even though your ancestors rejected Him,
they unwittingly left the door open for me to step in.
Now He is my loving Savior, so why not let Him be yours too,
The Messiah your heart longs for wants a relationship with you.

My heart cries for you because you don't know what you're missing!
Jesus to you a mystery, but, to me my whole reason for living.
Don't let your ancestors make this life changing decision for you.
Open the door to let your Messiah in and become a completed Jew.

I cannot serve two masters. I serve, but only one,
for if I love some sinfulness, I hate God's only Son.
Could I walk in His sandals? Do I really understand?
Of what would it encompass? Of what would it demand?

Could I put up with some abuse, and could I humbly be,
a whipping board of insults, for all to scoff at me?
Could I withstand a whipping? Tell me, would I know,
the pain down in my open wounds, torn flesh from every blow?

Could I, but bear the privilege - to be a king renowned,
my face stained in bloody streaks from such a thorny crown?
Would I know the cost of love, and God's most precious grace,
or would I simply think of me, and hate the human race?

Could I endure the anguish, as ropes bind hands and feet,
knotted up so tightly that - I'd give in to defeat?
There on my back, could I stare at - a spike set on my skin,
then watch them take a heavy stone, and slam it deep within?

Oh, I'd know what's coming next - I'd clench my other fist.
Could I endure another nail - or would I just resist?
When tortured even further, could pain be so complete,
when to the cross I'm nailed with - another through my feet?

Slowly ropes raise cross and I. The base slides in the hole.
Then in ghastly, horrid pain, would that jerk shake my soul?
And there I'd hang, alone up high - for all to mock and hate.
Could I endure the anguish then? Can I, to that relate?

Could I survive for hours, in pain and endless shame?
Would I ask Gods forgiveness - for those that I could blame?
Could I die for ALL the world - their sinful sacrifice -
and know that few would love me? Would that, for me, suffice?

Would my final miracle call for a heavenly host?
Or would I yield to Father's will and then give up the ghost?
Hate and anger would not end - the sword would pierce my side....
Oh, would I slip away and hide? Which way would I decide?

His sandals are too large to fill. His time, so long ago,
and Heaven - much too far away, while I'm down here below.
But could I wear His sandals - if I was called upon,
and are my trials greater that - I'd gladly put His on?

He demands my little faith. He holds no speck of wrath,
when He's a lamp unto my feet - a light unto my path.
Yes, I wear His sandals - for I've been called upon,
and faithful every morning I - slip them boldly on.

This poem may explain it - but who truly understands?
For every sin that we commit puts nails through Jesus' hands....
We cannot serve two masters. We serve, but only one.
We have to hate all sinfulness, to love God's only Son.

From the cradle to the grave
I've watched with eyes of love,
And seen each moment of your life
From My home above.

From the cradle to the grave
Not one second have I missed,
Although there was some heartache
That made you wonder if I exist.

From the cradle to the grave
You have never walked alone,
For when the burden was too heavy,
I gave to you my very Own.

From the cradle to the grave
Every thought you had inside
Was broadcast here in Heaven--
You have no place where to hide.

From the cradle to the grave,
From the grave to Heaven's door,
There are promises and blessings
As you love Me more and more.

Please Lord I am down on my knees
Help me now Lord help me please
Times are rough, and the air is thick
Help me now Lord I am sick

I pray to you Lord help me now
I don't know how to escape Lord tell me how
Please help me get out of this mess
Please Lord I want to be blessed

I pray to you now Lord I also pray then
When will this end Lord please tell me when
The stress is catching up to be
Please save me Lord and set me free

I pray to you now Lord you are everywhere
Where do I go Lord please tell me where
I am lost right now unable to see
Please Lord be here to guide me

I pray to you now Lord up in the Sky
Why must we suffer Lord please tell me why
I know you are there making us strong
Please Lord help me see what's wrong

I pray to you now Lord do I make the cut?
I open my heart to you Lord and guess what
You protect me when things are bad
and cheer me up when I am sad

I pray to you now Lord what am I to do?
Follow your will for you are the One who
Died on the cross wiping away my sins
So one day my eternal life with you begins

Green pastures, calm waters
The pathway it leads
To walk with our Savior
Who meets all our needs

The darkness in the valley
You have nothing to fear
His rod and his staff
Will always be near

Gods love is such
An unearthly kind
No where but heaven
Shall you ever find

He leads you down paths
For the good of his name
Opens your heart
So you'll do the same

The meal he prepares us
With our enemies near
Will open their eyes
Only him now they fear

Oil he will pour
On the top of our head
From the pages in his book
That they haven't read

Our cup will run over
His love we will feel
My king, My dear Savior
To him we will kneel

His goodness and mercy
Our home up above
Only made possible
By Gods endless love

I wake every morning
For this do I pray
Give thine eyes direction
On my knees I will say

Guide me, teach me
Love me I pray,
To remember his words
Remember the day

He lives in my heart
Show's me the way
His goodness and mercy
I rely on today

The strength that he gives me
My wisdom and grace
Life's difficult times
With him I can face

Pray to our Lord
He will answer your prayers
Guide you and help you
Climb all of life's stairs

The humble shall hear him
In all that they do
Just ask him to be there
He will stay next to you

The meek he will guide
Teach them his ways
To walk steady and surefooted
Towards their judgment day

He is my rock, my protection
My wisdom, my grace
Some day I will be there
He will look at my face

Good people rejoice
Sing all his songs
Walk with our Lord
All the day long

I sought the Lord
He calmed many fears
Safe in his arms
He dried all my tears

The Lord is my shepherd
He will meet all my needs
Giving comfort and warmth
I follow , he leads

Matthew 6: 19-21: Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

What has this world to offer but riches and gold?
What else so dear than wealth to hold?

Riches they fade not and hence acclaimed,
Diamonds and rubies will forever be famed.

But what with these riches, so easily rusted,
Not even your closest friend with them can be trusted.

So precious are they, that all want to steal,
Love for it so strong, no one can heal.

Money and God we both can’t serve,
For Our dear Lord, true heart does deserve.

For what your heart does choose to treasure,
In that will it indeed find true pleasure.

Our father in Heaven has promised us more,
If we true treasures in heaven will store.

The treasures in heaven, more richer than Gold,
For In Christ, we do have eternal wealth untold.

When I was a boy, I wanted all the pretty toys,
So I could play and show all the boys.
I wanted all the things I could touch and see,
I would be as happy as a boy could be.

When I was a young man, I wanted all the girls,
So I could make love and touch their beautiful curls.
I wanted all the women I could touch and see,
I would be as happy as a young man could be.

When I was a man, I wanted all the things I could get,
So I could conquer all with no regret.
I wanted to impress everyone I could touch and see,
I would be as happy as a man could be.

When I was an old man, I wanted my life I wasted,
So I could enjoy my family and things I never tasted.
I wanted everything I didn't touch and see,
I would be as happy as an old man could be.

When I was a dying man, I wanted God’s hand,
So I could go and see the promised land.
I wanted Jesus to touch and see,
I would be as happy as a dying man could be.

Forward by Gene Griffin, the author of the following two poems:

It was the example of an old Scottish preacher, Murdock Campbell, who encouraged me to begin writing poetry concerning various verses of Scripture. Also, the example of Isaac Watts has been a blessing to me along this line. It should be noted that he set all of the Psalms to rhyme. May these two poems written about two passages in the Psalms be a blessing to your heart. Gene Griffin

But those who in reverence seek Thee,

Psalm 121:3-5

The LORD neither slumbers nor sleeps,
His eye constantly watches you and me.
The LORD’s own He lovingly keeps,
His shade, His presence shall be with thee.

Thoughts on Psalm 121:3-5 Poem

He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.
Psalm 121:3-5

The sinner bowed before the throne,
With tears and sorrow on his face,
"I am not worthy to be called Thy son,
Thy law of love, I have disgraced."

"Oh Lord, I’ve done so many things,
I’ve killed, I’ve stolen from the poor,
I’ve persecuted the ones that love Thy law,
And now, my punishment is death, I’m sure."

"My family and friends,
I’ve hurt beyond repair,
Have mercy on me oh Lord,"
The sinner cried in deep despair.

"Forgiveness, peace and love,
I long to obtain from Thee,
For you alone can do this work,
To save and pardon me."

"My words are too feeble,
My strength is almost gone,
Have mercy on me, o Son of David,
Have mercy on me, o Holy One."

Tears streaming down his face,
His eyes are sunken to the ground,
And then a hand has touched his brow,
"Arise my son, for in thee favor I have found."

The sinner looked unto the Savior
"I pledge my life and all that I have to Thee,
For I want the world to know it,
I serve the One who gave His life because of me.

Nothing is more precious than to serve Him,
The One who died for you and me,
For love is only spelled in blood,
On the hill of Golgotha, the cross of Calvary.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Psalm 46:1-3

Amidst the toil and rush of our day,
Do we ever stop to pray?
Is it all toil and hurry,
And is our time filled with worry?

We neglect the principal need
When on our knees we forget to plead!
Our needs go beyond the daily grind-
What’s the use if peace we never find?

We need the quiet place
Where we may avail ourselves of God’s amazing grace.
Amidst the toil and rush-be still and know-
That in adversity we may grow.

Trouble is our servant to cause us gain-
Not just instruments to cause us pain.
God, the Controller and Sovereign Ruler of all
Numbers the hair on our heads and notes the sparrow’s fall.

Let us not forget the quiet place-
Where we avail ourselves of His grace.
In His presence we must come apart
To be still and know with a quiet heart.

So amidst your daily toil, in the secret place of your being,
Don’t be content with doing and seeing,
Commune with Him in quiet repose-
Confidently resting in Him who sees and knows.

Always and forever I'll walk with Thee,
Standing in Your shadow so blessed and free.

Knowing You'll guide me all through the day
With Your comforting hand to lead the way

I praise You Lord for all You've done
For my life's path and victories won!

There's no greater friend that I could find
Than You my Savior with love divine!

My Life forever Yours will be
For all You gave on Calvary!

This love could never be repaid
Your Grace has taken me all the way!

Thank you for forgiving me
And opening my eyes so I can see.

That Grace and Love will over flow
When always and forever with You I'll go!

Always and forever I will follow You,
Always and forever for your love so True!

Linda Sue Etling

Through mountain streams
I'll walk with him
my Saviour ever more

He lifts me high
I touch the sky
my Saviour ever more

I'll work in hand
he knows my plans
my Saviour ever more

And when I stray
he shows the way
my Saviour ever more

how sweet your love
my God above
my Saviour ever more

that when I die
I shall see the light
my Saviour ever more

Have you ever realized,
How easily we criticize,
Our words seem to flow like a river;
But when we apologize,
We begin to realize,
We must learn to be a forgiver.

How articulate I am,
When I criticize a man,
I formulate every word perfectly;
But I stutter and stammer,
Tell me what is the matter,
My apologies come out differently.

They're so unattractive,
We're needing more practice,
We spend too much time criticizing;
So little time is spent,
Learning how to repent,
And to repent isn't too appetizing.

While you may criticize,
I'm going to apologize,
I've done it and I did it in rhyme;
Dear God help everyone,
To apologize to someone,
To be willing to put in overtime.

Have you found what you came here searching for?
Or do roads of confusion still wind,
Down an endless stretch through the highways of life,
Yearning for morning's true light?

Does your heart feel the warmth of contentment
That you ached so long to receive?
Has your soul been drenched in the peace which you languished
Alone in your hour of need?

Is the crowd a companion to your emptiness?
Does the music drown the sound of your pain?
Does it matter you were 'life of the party' last night,
When you wake up in bed with your shame?

As you hit your knees in surrender
Will you abandon the life you once knew?
As you grow, lift your heart towards heaven
And your soul will be renewed.

Are you ready to give your life to Him?
Are you open to joy and love?
Now you've found what you came here searching for;
Eternal grace from our Father above.

We cannot all be famous
Or be listed in "Who's Who",
But every person, great or small,
Has important work to do.

For seldom do we realize
The importance of small deeds,
Or to what degree of greatness
Unnoticed kindness leads.

For it's not the big celebrity
In a world of fame and praise,
But it's doing unpretentiously
In an undistinguished way.

The work that God assigned to us,
Unimportant as it seems,
That makes our task outstanding,
And brings reality to dreams.

So do not sit and idly wish
For wider, new dimensions
Where you can put into practice,
Your many good intentions.

But at the spot God placed you
Begin at once to do,
Little things to brighten up
The lives surrounding you.

If everybody brightened up
The spot where they are standing,
By being more considerate,
And a little less demanding.

This dark old world would very soon
Eclipse the evening star,
If everybody brightened up
The corner where they are!

Another beautiful sunrise is shining,
And casts sparkles among the trees,
The sun rises higher each moment,
Have we taken time, upon our knees?

Do we hurry through, with God, in Prayer....
So we can rush about, this day?
Do we take time....for others, to care?
Or, are we "too busy"....to even Pray?

The way of Life goes so much better,
If we spend time with our Father,
Remember Jesus...and ask for Guidance,
And always Praying, daily, for one another.

How quickly the day comes to an end,
And the sun sinks...in the Western sky,
God Loves us...and walks with us,
And He will be with us...when we die.

Christians heed to what I say,
the Will of God is not in play.
We tend our flocks and nourish needs,
but don't go out where Jesus leads.

Our Churches big, despite the cost,
they comfort us, but not the lost.
It seems we've lost our given goal,
that everyone through Christ be whole.

Jesus said, "Go forth and teach,
to every nation you can reach."
"To Baptize them in Gods own name,
the Holy Ghost and Son the same."

He said, "Teach to them what I have taught,
the One they seek may now be sought."
Jesus said, "Go forth and teach",
but not just those He's called to preach.

There's people dying in their sin,
cause Christians now hold God within.
Revival comes from inside our heart,
I pray dear Lord, please help us start.

Fill us full of your Holy Ghost,
and place us where you need us most.
Please send us Lord into the lands,
to heal the sick, with your precious hands.

Lord give us faith and give us power,
to save the world this final hour.
Praise your name-THE KING ON HIGH,
if we don't do it, the stones will cry.

I pray YE LORD,
one humble plea,
don't send a stone Lord,
Please SEND ME.

When we daily traveled in total darkness,
Without benefit of a guiding light;
We knew not yet Gods' living waters,
Needed for healing of our spiritual sight.

The day the Spirit called us to accept Him
To be numbered among His faithful heirs;
Pre-destined from before the birth of the world,
Upon him casting all our cares.

When we take a wrong turn falling short of his Way,
Offending the one who paid our price;
Knowing He's faithful and just to forgive us our sin,
He washes us, turning us back to His loving face.

Sanctification, such an important word,
A great challenge, yes indeed;
Walking that narrow road with Jesus,
Knowing where in the end it will lead.

When we see Him face to face,
On clouds of glory from on high;
Our glorification realized thanks to His loving grace,
It truly was a walk worthwhile.

What would bring a tear to Jesus each day
Could it be the words we so carelessly say
Could it be when he sees how we treat one another
And not following His command to love our brother
Does He weep with us when our hearts are broken
I am sure He does and so He leaves His door open
He is a man acquainted with our grief and sorrows
He will lift us up and bring us through our tomorrows
But what can make Him sad, what can make Him cry
I believe when we forget just why He was crucified
I am sure His heart gets broken and to each one He would say
Please my children listen I love you follow me for I am the way
Sweet Jesus let us not be the one who would bring a tear to your eye
Help us Oh Lord to honor you with our hearts and open them up wide
For no matter what happens you are always very near
To comfort us and to wipe away every single tear
Lord let us come and dry the tears that flow from you eyes
By walking in love till you come and break through the sky.
We love you Lord Jesus and this we will continue to pray
That we will not be the one to bring a tear to you this day.

Here is a beautiful wedding poem:

We'll keep our Lord before us
In all we say and do
We're meant to be together
We both believe it's true.

We'll keep our Lord before us
And pray His will be done
We're thankful that He brought us
Together, through His Son.

We'll keep our Lord before us
And pray our love will grow
He'll keep His hand upon us
His love we'll always know.

Steven Hanna, 2001

If you will spend some time each day
Just listening to God’s voice
He’ll tell you what you need to do
And in His words, rejoice.

He wills you to go through each day
Reaching out to those in need
To share your faith with those still lost
He’s with you and He’ll lead.

He gives the words you need to say
Through the Spirit who dwells within
And by your witness to them
Someone lost might turn from sin.

If by your words they realize
There’s a better way for them
Introduce them to your Savior
And the life they’ll share with Him.

Tell them that you’ve walked their way
Before you bowed your head
And asked God to forgive you
For the life of sin you lead.

Tell them He forgave you
When you accepted His only Son
And through His grace He saved you
And your lost soul was won.

You never know who might be saved
If you take the time to share
How they too can be saved like you
And dwell within His care.

I had a strange dream
Very late last night.
I saw the Lord Jesus,
His face shining bright.

He asked me a question
That brought me to tears:
He asked where I'd been
For the past couple years.

When I answered I said:
"I've been reading Your Word
And praying quite often.
Why? Haven't You heard?"

Then He replied: "Yes,
I've heard everything,
But don't I deserve more?
After all, I'm your King."

I said after a while:
"What more can I do?
What else would You like
Me to do to please You?"

"Tell the world of My love",
He replied to me,
"That I died for them
On Calvary's tree."

Then, I said: "Yes, Lord,
I will do as You say,
And all of Your laws
I will try to obey".

With a smile on His face,
He asked one more thing:
"Could you please do
Something else for the King?"

"I'd like it if you
Would talk to Me more,
And tell Me your problems
More than before."
"I love you so much
And I hope you will see
That we should be
Closer friends, you and Me."

Right then, I woke up
And thought about my dream,
And just now I've told you
What I had seen.

I am twenty-one years old and have struggled greatly with the relationships in my life. I have made mistakes and wear the scars on my soul to prove it. Only when I fell in love with Jesus Christ did I realize that being single is a blessing, being married is a gift. I wrote this poem to encourage the single ladies out there who have given up hope. Fall in love with Jesus, for He is closer to you than your own soul.

My contentment is found
In Christ alone.
In His love I'm complete,
He has made me His own.

I don't need to look
to the left or the right,
Sweet peace I have
Resting in His sight.

My dreams aren't gone.
My heart is in one piece.
My King I will serve,
Until the great wedding feast.

My days are consumed
By His endless love.
My heart overflows
With joy from above.

I need nothing else
But His hand in my life,
Being His servant,
And one day, His wife.

A promise of life abundant
In God’s Word I found

My sin I confessed, He forgave,
My life I asked, His life He gave,

Freedom I asked, victory He gave,
Help I asked, His power He gave.

My life He changed, thanks I gave,
Power He gave, now Him I serve,

I live for Him, I share His love,
My deeds are changed, His glory they tell.

And in my life is joy and peace,
Full to the brim, my life in Him.

As we stand in the Spirit with Jesus by our side,
We bind Satan's activity for it cannot come untied.
When we bind on earth what happens in heaven you will see,
Is release from the evil one for the Truth will set you free.

We speak the words of wisdom and stand firmly on Your Word.
We only have to say it once for our heavenly Father has heard.
We stand here in agreement, this group, truly united as one.
We go in battle with our Commander who is none other than Your Son.

We pray for lost souls of loved ones, family, and friends -
On the day they receive Your love that forever without end.
So when we pray and command either being loose or tied,
Always pray in the Spirit because Jesus is by our side.

Soon we'll come to the end of life's journey
And perhaps never meeting the Lord
Till we gather in Heaven's Bright City
I will meet you on that beautiful shore.

If we never meet again this side of Heaven
As we struggle through this world, and it's strife
There's a bright meeting place somewhere in Heaven
By the side of the River of Life.

Where the charming roses bloom forever, and ever
And where separations come no more
If we never meet again this side of Heaven
I will meet you on that beautiful shore.

Walking like Jesus - We're walking in love
Wise as a serpent - Gentle as a dove.
Walking like Jesus - Forgiving each other
Never holding grudges against any brother.

Walking like Jesus - We're filled with the Spirit
And when we see evil - We do not go near it.
Walking like Jesus - In might and in power
We'll not suffer satan one day or one hour.

Walking like Jesus - In unyielding faith
We press toward the mark - To go in the Straight Gate.
Walking like Jesus - And always in prayer
He's taken our burdens - He really does care.

Walking like Jesus - We have divine health
Right standing with God and inherited wealth.
Walking like Jesus - As sons of the King
We abide in His Shadow and under His Wing.

Walking like Jesus - In obedience to God
Comforted always by His staff and His rod.
Walking like Jesus - We die to the flesh
Crucified with Him - And with him resurrect.

Walking like Jesus - Giving praise to the Lord
Wearing the armour and wielding the sword
Walking like Jesus is our main goal in life
And through Him we conquer tribulation and strife.

Without the Lord Jesus - We are empty and hollow.
We know the Lord's voice - And only Him will we follow.

Robbin Milam Hall, 1981

The easy roads are crowded,
And the level roads are jammed;
The pleasant little rivers
With the drifting folks are crammed.

But off yonder where it's rocky,
Where you get a better view,
You will find the ranks are thinning
And the travelers are few.

Where the going's smooth and pleasant
You will always find the throng,
For the many, mores the pity,
Seem to like to drift along.

But the steps that call for courage
And the task that's hard to do,
In the end results in glory
For the never-wavering few.

The last reflections of a 34 year old young man dying of aids.

Our Days on this earth
are only a few.
Like a drop in the ocean
so bright and so blue.

In our youth we look to the future
with dreams that's so bright.
Not really realizing
God keeps us always in sight.

He guides our path
with such a gentle hand.
Gives us the courage we need
to take our stand.

We shove that little voice aside
and say - "I have plenty of time."
God with His gentle patience says
"I'll wait - I don't mind."

As time slides on
and we daily stray,
God's gentle voice says
That's O.K. - I'll have my day."

When His hand
constantly brings us in line,
We look back and say
"I've wasted so much time."

Come to Me early
Our God pleads.
I have for you to plant
Many, Many seeds.

Dear Lord I know you care for me
how very many times I see,
The signs you leave through out the day
To let me know you passed this way,

How could I ever disbelieve
who feel your hand upon my sleeve,
nor lose my way through out the land
Who find your footprints in the sand,

And though my mind is much too small
to weigh the wonder of it all,
The least among us here must see
The awful price you paid for me.

I know that you are every place
I do not have to see your face
and that though all that is to be
Dear Lord that you will care for me.

Diana Atwell, Indpls IN.

A young, new preacher was walking with an older, more seasoned preacher in the garden one day and feeling a bit insecure about what God had for him to do, he was inquiring of the older preacher. The older preacher walked up to a rosebush and handed the young preacher a rosebud and told him to open it without tearing off any petals.

The young preacher looked in disbelief at the older preacher and was trying to figure out what a rosebud could possibly have to do with his wanting to know the WILL OF GOD for his life and for his ministry.

Because of his high respect for the older preacher, he proceeded to TRY to unfold the rose, while keeping every petal intact...It wasn't long before he realized how impossible it was to do so.

Noticing the younger preacher's inability to unfold the rosebud while keeping it intact, the older preacher began to recite the following poem...

It is only a tiny rosebud,
A flower of God's design;
But I cannot unfold the petals
With these clumsy hands of mine.

The secret of unfolding flowers
Is not known to such as I.
GOD opens this flower so sweetly,
When in my hands they fade and die.

If I cannot unfold a rosebud,
This flower of God's design,
Then how can I think I have wisdom
To unfold this life of mine?

So I'll trust in Him for His leading
Each moment of every day.
I will look to him for His guidance
Each step of the pilgrim way.

The pathway that lies before me,
Only my Heavenly Father knows.
I'll trust Him to unfold the moments,
Just as He unfolds the rose.

When I have lost my temper
I have lost my reason too.
I'm never proud of anything
Which angrily I do.

When I have talked in anger,
And my cheeks are flaming red,
I have always uttered something
Which I wish I had not said.

In anger I have never
Done a kindly deed or wise.
But many things for which I felt
I should apologize.

In looking back across my life,
And all I've lost or made,
I can't recall a single time
When fury ever paid.

Like mist on the mountain,
    Like ships on the sea,
So swiftly the years
    of our pilgrimage flee;
In the grave of our fathers
    How soon shall we lie!
Dear children, today
    To a Saviour fly.

How sweet are the flowerets
    In April and in May!
But often the frost makes
    Them wither away.
Like flowers you made fade:
    Are you ready to die?
While "yet there is room,"
    To a Saviour fly.

When Samuel was young,
    He first knew the Lord,
He slept in His smile
    And rejoiced in His Word:
So most of God's children
    are early brought nigh:
Oh, seek Him in youth --
    To a Saviour fly.

Do you ask me for pleasure?
    Then lean on His breast,
For there the sin-laden
    And weary find rest.
In the valley of death
    You will triumphing cry --
"If this be called dying,
    "Tis pleasant to die!"

R.M. M'Cheyne, 1837

If Jesus came to your home to spend a day or two --
If He came unexpectedly, I wonder what you'd do.
Oh, I know you'd give your nicest room to such an honored Guest,
And all the food you'd serve Him would be the very best,
And you would keep assuring Him you're glad to have Him there --
That serving Him in your home is joy beyond compare.

But -- when you see Him coming would you meet Him at the door
With arms outstretched in welcome to your Heavenly Visitor?
Or would you have to change your clothes before you let Him in,
Or hide some magazines, and put the Bible where they'd been?
Would you turn off the radio and hope He hadn't heard,
And wish you hadn't uttered that last, loud, hasty word?

Would you hide your worldly music and put some hymn books out?
Could you let Jesus walk right in, or would you rush about?
And I wonder -- if the Savior spent a day or two with you,
Would you go right on doing things you always do?
Would you go right on saying the things you always say?
Would life for you continue as it does from day to day?

Would your family conversation keep its usual pace,
And would you find it hard each meal to say table grace?
Would you sing the songs you always sing, and read the books you read,
And let Him know the things on which your mind and spirit feed?
Would you take Jesus with you everywhere you planned to go,
Or would you, maybe, change your plans for just a day or so?

Would you be glad to have Him meet your very closest friends,
Or would you hope they stay away until His visit ends?
Would you be glad to have Him stay forever on and on,
Or would you sigh with great relief when He at last was gone?
It might be interesting to know the things that you would do,
If Jesus came in person to spend some time with you.

Like coins in our pocket,
Another year we have spent.
Who among us could give account
Of where it all went?
For like coins that soon dwindle
A little here, a little there;
We spend with such ease,
We spend without care.
With no forethought of the sum
We spend with such haste,
Never choosing to remember
How much has been waste.
How much have we spent
Just so self we could please,
Not caring that our giving
Might someone else's load ease?
And what then shall we do
When there's no more to spend?
And what will we have
To show in the end?
And how then shall we answer
For the time God has lent?
Like coins in our pocket
Have we carelessly spent?

Almighty God whose covenant grace
a thousand generations praise,
give us, and students ev'rywhere
your Spirit's help, that we may dare
to stand in life with open eyes,
discerning between truth and lies.

Dear Father, guide us by your Word
which we so many times have heard;
let Christ our only refuge be,
to whom in faith we ever flee.
Lord, keep us healthy, safe, secure,
our walk upright, our life-style pure.

Teach us with joy our way to go,
say, "yes", to you, to Satan, "no";
to seek your praise with all our life,
to falter not when others strive
your rule, your law-word to disclaim;
with boldness to confess your Name.

O, Lord, in Jesus Name we ask:
prepare us for a worthwhile task
of service which, in all we do,
helps humans, and gives praise to you.
"Amen", we sing now without fear,
for you, our covenant God, will hear.

        Johannes DeViet, London, Ontario.

        I asked for strength that I might achieve;
He made me weak that I might obey.
        I asked for health that I might do great things;
He gave me grace that I might do better things.
        I asked for riches that I might be happy;
He gave me poverty that I might be wise.
        I asked for power that I might have the praise of others;
He gave me weakness that I might feel a need of God.
        I asked for all things that I might enjoy life;
He gave me life that I might enjoy all things.
        I received nothing I had asked for;
He gave me all that I had hoped for.

This life that we live is like a vapor.
That appears for awhile then goes away.
But there is a much better life hereafter!
God's own promise to those who live His way.

Living God's way can only be a pleasure,
Pleasure in knowing we now live by His grace!
All trials that we faced will be forgotten,
When we see the blessed Saviour face to face.

For one day we will stand before our Maker,
And give account for all that we have done.
The wise will be rewarded for their good deeds!
The unwise will be punished for the bad.

The only sting to death is the sin we carry.
So why not give this burden to the Lord.
He waits to hear from you if you are willing,
If you're willing He will cleanse you by His blood.
